GoHighLevel for med spas: lead follow-up, the HIPAA add-on and what it costs

Last materially reviewed 2026-10-03

Quick answerGoHighLevel covers med spa inquiries, missed calls and booking follow-up. HIPAA is a separate $297 per month add-on on any plan, and it is not a charting system.

Does GoHighLevel work for a med spa?

Yes, for the front desk side of a medspa: capturing inquiries, texting back missed calls, booking consultations and asking for reviews. It is a marketing and follow-up platform, so it does not replace clinical records.

HighLevel publishes its own med spa playbook. It sets up, in this order, a lead form or chat widget, Missed Call Text Back, a follow-up workflow, a booking calendar, and optionally Conversation AI or Voice AI. The follow-up workflow in that playbook sends an instant thank-you text and email, a gentle nudge after one hour, a booking offer after 24 hours, and an alert to the team. That sequence is the core of after-hours lead handling for a clinic that closes at six.

HIPAA on GoHighLevel: not on by default, $297 per month, any plan

HighLevel's help center states plainly that accounts are not HIPAA compliant by default. As read on 3 October 2026:

HighLevel HIPAA add-on facts from the official help article
QuestionAnswer
Price$297 per month, on top of the plan
Which plans can buy itAny plan: Starter, Unlimited or Agency Pro, monthly or annual
ScopeAccount-wide, covering all sub-accounts
Business Associate AgreementA signed BAA is provided as part of the package
Can it be removed laterNo. Once enabled it cannot be canceled, refunded or downgraded
Extra stepThe agency owner turns the HIPAA toggle on per sub-account under Advanced Settings

The pricing page also lists HIPAA compliance among the Enterprise plan extras, but the help article confirms you do not need Enterprise to get it. Because the add-on is permanent, decide whether you will store protected health information in HighLevel at all before buying. Whether your particular use needs it is a question for your own compliance adviser. More on the company's security statements is in is GoHighLevel legit.

Plan choice and a worked month for a single-location med spa

One clinic needs one sub-account, so Starter at $97 per month fits. Unlimited at $297 only makes sense with more than three locations. Prices were read on 3 October 2026 and can change.

Assume 400 inbound calls of two minutes, 150 of them missed and answered by an automatic text, 300 appointment reminder texts and 200 replies from clients.

Worked example: one med spa, one month, with HIPAA (US rates read 3 October 2026)
ItemCalculationMonthly cost
Starter planFlat fee$97.00
HIPAA add-onFlat fee$297.00
Local phone number1 x $1.15$1.15
A2P campaign fee, Low Volume Mixed UseRecurring$1.50
Text messages650 segments x $0.00747$4.86
Inbound calls800 minutes x $0.01165$9.32
Total$410.83

Without the HIPAA add-on the same month is $113.83. A one-time A2P brand registration of $22.50 and variable carrier fees are extra. Each missed-call text is a normal billable message, and it fires on every missed call, including repeats from the same person. The missed call text back cost page covers that in detail.

The limitation: no treatment charting in the documentation

A med spa needs intake forms, consent, treatment notes and before and after photos tied to each client. The HighLevel pages read for this guide describe forms, calendars, pipelines and messaging. They do not describe a charting or medical record feature. In practice that means HighLevel sits beside your clinical system, and staff keep clinical details out of text threads.

Mangomint as the med spa alternative

Mangomint is booking and practice software for salons, spas and med spas. Its pricing page, read on 3 October 2026, charges $120 per location per month plus $10 per user per month. Its med spa page says Mangomint maintains HIPAA compliance with a signed BAA, enabled by its support team, and lists HIPAA compliance among the things all users get. It describes itself as an electronic medical record with forms, charting, memberships and online booking.
